Cognitive dissonance epidemic

The shut-down of Britain by the recent snow falls has got the right-wing tabloids screaming about the poor response by central and local government. These are the same newspapers that would normally be screaming for tax cuts. Here is a case of cognitive dissonance.

The same can be seen in central government. People are being asked to accept austerity measures, but money for banking bail-outs still seems to be freely available, no questions asked. All of a sudden, market forces are no longer sacrosanct. And in the meantime, the government is pressing on with its plans for a prestige high speed railway whilst at the same time cancelling electrification schemes authorised only last year, and there is no end to the overcrowding that affects passengers daily, due to the shortage of carriages.
