What is going on in the economy?

E-mail Print PDF

Confused about what is going on? Politicians, economists and journalists certainly seem to be. There are many opinions about what is happening in the economy, how the situation arose, what should be done about it and how things will turn out in the end. One difficulty is that the study of economics itself is in a state of confusion, a conclusion that was drawn by a professor of economics at Cambridge University, no less. That was in the early 1980s, when the UK economy was starting to come out of the recession which hit in 1974. What the outcome will be this time depends on how governments respond, but these on-line courses, adapted from papers given by members of the Henry George Foundation, are useful if you want to gain an understanding of the events of the past year.
